Alabama Basketball is Here to Stay
Alabama basketball is dominant, and their Saturday victory proves that.
But we aren’t talking about the men’s basketball program that was named one of four No. 1 seeds for March Madness – The powerhouse basketball team at Alabama is women’s wheelchair basketball.
On Saturday, March 11, 2023, they won their third consecutive national championship with a never-in-doubt 88-41 win over UT-Arlington (Bama Central). GRIT PR athlete Bailey Moody scored 10 points toward her third national championship. (See the highlight reel HERE, and watch the full game HERE.)
“This team puts in the work! It doesn’t matter which lineup is in. There is never a drop in intensity. It has been so fun to win as one unit and dominate together,” said Moody, a junior psychology major.
In Saturday’s victory, Alabama choked the UT-Arlington offense, allowing only one three-pointer. While keeping their opponent's offense in check, Alabama shot “better than 45 percent in all four quarters, highlighted by the 87.5 percent shooting in the second quarter. Overall, the Tide shot 66.1 percent from the field for the game” (Bama Central).
The team chemistry is evident in their victories and their all-around excellence in the sport.
Four members of the championship team, including Moody, are on Team USA, where Alabama Head Coach Ryan Hynes is an assistant coach. Moody is joined by Abby Bauleke, Ixhelt Gonzales, and Lindsey Zurbrugg. Additionally, one teammate is on Team France (Loeiza Vari Le Roux), and another is on Team Great Britain (Joy Haizelden). With almost half of the squad on a national team, talk about a star-studded squad!
